Woven bags are mainly made of PP and PE. The raw materials are processed through extrusion, cutting, uniaxial tension and weaving in production of woven bags. Today, woven bags are widely used in food, daily necessities, fertilizer, and chemical industries, etc. as a main form of packaging.
Woven bags are usually used to carry heavy items inside, so they should have sufficient durability to meet the customers’ requirements. The durability of woven bags can be measured by its tensile strength. To be specific, if the tensile strength of woven bag is too low, the bag may be liable to be broken in storage or transportation and as a result the product inside the bag cannot be protected properly and the bag cannot be used any more. Therefore, it is necessary for the manufacturers to check the tensile strength of woven bags before use.
This article provides a test method of tensile strength of woven bag for your reference. We used Link Testing’s LTS-05Auto Tensile Tester in the tests. The specimens are provided by one plastic woven bag manufacturer. The reference standard is GB/T 1040.3-2006: Determination of tensile properties-Part 3: Test conditions for films and sheets.

Test Principle of LTS-05Auto Tensile Tester
The specimen is clamped in the upper and lower sample grips. Then the upper and lower sample grips will move in opposite directions. Load cell embedded in moveable sample grips and the displacement sensor will detect and record the force changes and displacement changes in testing process. Finally, the tensile properties, tear resistance and deformation rate, etc. can be calculated.
Application Scope of LTS-05Auto Tensile Tester
Instrument Features of LTS-05Auto Tensile Tester
Load cell capacity can be selected, 500N or 50N.
Seven test speeds can be selected, 50 mm/min, 100 mm/min, 150 mm/min, 200 mm/min, 250 mm/min, 300 mm/min and 500 mm/min.
1000mm extra-long stroke satisfies the test needs of various materials with extreme elongation rate.
Intelligent designs of over-travel protection, overload protect, automatic position reset and power failure memory for safe test operation.
7 independent test modes are available, including tensile strength, peeling force, tearing force and other force properties of flexible packages.
Supports LystemTM Lab Data Sharing System for better data management.
The tests can be performed according to the following procedures.
Test Results
The average tensile strength of the woven bags is 386.507 N/50mm for transverse direction, 398.011 N/50mm for machine direction.
Conclusion
LTS-05Auto Tensile Tester is one professional testing instrument for determination of tensile properties of flexible packaging materials. The instrument is easy to operate and featured with stable and accurate test data.
