Salt is an indispensable condiment for daily diet. According to the different sources of raw materials, salt can be divided into sea salt, well salt, lake salt, mineral salt, etc. Regardless of the type of salt, it is a crystalline solid with different particle sizes.
Common packaging materials for salt include plastic composite film, paper-plastic film, aluminum-plated composite film, etc. During the transportation, storage, and sales of finished salt packaging, when stacking or falling, salt particles will produce a certain puncture force on the packaging bag. If the packaging bag used has poor puncture resistance, serious marks or pinholes will appear under the puncture of salt, which will reduce the barrier and sealing properties of the packaging, causing the amount of gas permeating from the environment to the packaging to increase or the packaging bag to break, resulting in moisture absorption and leakage of salt. Therefore, the packaging material used for salt should have high puncture resistance.
Test method and instrument
The test was conducted in accordance with the relevant provisions of GB/T 10004-2008 "Plastic composite film for packaging, dry composite and extrusion composite". The test instrument used was the Automatic Tensile Tester LTS-05 developed and produced by Link Testing to test the puncture strength of the sample.
Test sample and test process
Test sample: A certain brand of plastic composite film for refined salt packaging is used as the test sample to test its puncture resistance.
Test process:
(1) Sample cutting Cut 5 samples with a diameter of 100 mm from the surface of the salt packaging sample.
(2) Sample loading Take one of the samples and clamp it in the equipment fixture, and fix the fixture on the equipment.
Figure 1 Puncture test sample loading diagram
(3) Parameters Set parameter information such as sample name, sample thickness, and test speed.
(4) Test Click the test option, the test starts, the puncture needle moves upward at the set test speed, and punctures the sample. The equipment automatically records the force value changes during the puncture process, and displays the puncture force after the test.
(5) Repeat the sample loading and test start operations until all 5 samples are tested.
Test results and analysis
The puncture forces of the five samples tested in this experiment were 8.032 N, 8.116 N, 8.109 N, 8.076 N, and 8.127 N, respectively. The puncture force of the salt packaging bag sample was the average of the five test results, which was 8.092 N.
Puncture resistance is one of the basic properties that salt packaging should have. It is an important factor in determining whether the packaging bag is prone to reduced barrier properties or even bag breakage under the puncture of salt. This paper uses the LTS-05 Automatic Tensile Tester to test the puncture force of a certain brand of plastic composite film for salt packaging. The test process is simple, the equipment is easy to operate, the test results have good repeatability, stability, and high precision, which can well reflect the puncture resistance of the sample.
