Proposal for the barrier performance of anti-static bubble bags against external water vapor

Anti-static bubble bags use their own bubble structure to prevent the internal products from being damaged by impact, and have anti-static, thermal insulation, shockproof, pressure-resistant and moisture-proof effects. They are widely used as protective packaging for various electronic components and other precision components. Since the internal structure of electronic components is prone to rust, short circuit and other problems after being exposed to moisture, the effective moisture barrier of the bubble bag is crucial. If the barrier performance of the bubble bag is poor, that is, the water vapor permeability is high, it is easy to cause the electronic product to age prematurely and cannot be used, and the anti-static bubble bag will not be able to play a moisture-proof role. This article uses the LTWTC-203H water vapor permeability test system to test the barrier performance of anti-static bubble bags to external water vapor, so as to provide a reference for related manufacturers to effectively screen packaging materials.

Reference standards and test instruments

The domestic test methods for water vapor permeability of packaging materials include the cup method, electrolytic sensor method, infrared sensor method, humidity sensor method, etc. The reference method standards are GB 1037 "Test method for water vapor permeability of plastic film and sheet - Cup method", GB/T 21529 "Determination of water vapor permeability of plastic film and sheet - Electrolytic sensor method", GB/T 26253 "Determination of water vapor permeability of plastic film and sheet - Infrared detector method", GB/T 30412 "Determination of water vapor permeability of plastic film and sheet - Humidity sensor method". This test adopts the principle of the cup method, and the reference standard is GB 1037 "Test method for water vapor permeability of plastic film and sheet - Cup method".

WVTR (Water Vapor Transmission Rate Tester)LTWTC-203H

For this test, we used the LTWTC-203H water vapor permeability tester independently developed and designed by Link Testing Instruments Co., Ltd. The instrument is based on the cup method test principle and is a professional water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) tester for film samples. The three moisture permeability cups configured in the system can all perform independent tests. The test process not only strictly complies with the standard requirements, but is also fully automatically controlled.

Test principle: LTWTC-203H adopts the test principle of moisture permeable cup weighing method. Under a certain temperature, a specific humidity difference is formed on both sides of the sample. Water vapor passes through the sample in the moisture permeable cup and enters the dry side. By measuring the change of the moisture permeable cup weight over time, the water vapor transmission rate and other parameters of the sample are calculated.

Test sample and test process

Test sample: The test sample is an anti-static bubble bag sample provided by a certain enterprise.

Test process:

(1) Use a sampler to cut 3 pieces of samples with a diameter of 74mm from the sample for testing.

(2) Clamp the sample in a moisture permeable cup, seal it with special wax liquid, put it into the test chamber, and close the chamber door.

(3) Set parameters such as sample name, sample thickness, test temperature, test humidity, etc.

(4) Start the air source and click the "Start Test" option.

(5) After the test, the instrument automatically calculates and displays the test results.

Test results and analysis

The water vapor permeability of the anti-static bubble bags tested this time are: 13.3529 g/(m2·24h), 13.0199g/(m2·24h), 13.4863g/(m2·24h).

The LTWTC-203H water vapor permeability tester is a professional instrument for testing the water vapor permeability of packaging materials such as films, papers, and sheets. The equipment is easy to operate, has high test accuracy, good repeatability, and can accurately reflect the moisture resistance of anti-static bubble bags.
